So this excessively warm winter decided some time last week to be nice and stay cold enough for the endless procession of precipitation to deliver some snow rather then the hated rain.

I’ve spent most of my time lapping the ridge above Mt Eyak (after getting a bump up via the lift or snowcat) and on Wednesday conditions were good enough to warrent spending a full day riding the single chair.  The snow was knee deep and heavy enough to allow floating without any bottom scrapping.  Mt Eyak is an absolute gem. Lots of rolling terrain, plenty of steep tree shots, and little improvised jumps carved out of every bump like a ski area from my youth in Michigan. Openings usually dont happen until 1pm and are announced via facebook. It seems like at each opening half the town is out enjoying the powder and at night the excitement levels in town are noticeably elevated (which I can prove definitively from increased liquor sales at work). Tomorrow is supposed to dump, and from things are finally at long last begining to fill in. Now it’s just a matter of waiting for some high pressure so I can get on some bigger lines. Feeling much better about life then I was in late January.
